ASUS 22" Screen with built in webcam/mic/speaker
A few days ago, I was building a computer using a Sunbeam Transformer Chassis, and I used an ASUS 22" LCD screen. There are several features that I like to see on screens.
►Response Time
►Brightness
►Viewing Angle
►Size
►Quality of Picture
It came well packaged in syrofoam, and bore no initial marks or scuffs. I powered on the screen by itself, and it was fine. I built the PC, and then plugged it in so I could load Windows XP/Office 2007 onto it before I delieverd it. One thing about LCDs that you have to be careful about is dead pixels. Dead pixels (or bright pixels) are pixels that do not turn on, or pixels that are off colored or too bright. Often, you cannot fix these, and most return policies state that you need 8+ in order to qualify for a return/refund.
Response time for most LCDs ranges from 2ms to 15ms. This particular monitor is 2ms, though I believe it might be a GtoG (grey to grey) time, meaning it is more like 4ms for actual response time for videos. The wide majority have 5ms response times, so I was very happy. I played an HD video on it, and it played well, as well as Counterstrike. (Using an 8800gt 256mb)
The brightness is something that I strive for. Unlike a lot of people, I enjoy a monitor that has a very high brightness, so that I can turn it down if I want, but usually I like mine bright so it will display all the colors vividly. Photographers will enjoy this screen because it is very bright, and has several different modes that you can turn it on (nighttime/theater/gaming/etc) to get the optimal brightness level.
Viewing angle for this screen is 170 degrees. Realistically, you don't look at a screen from an angle, so it's not too much of an issue. We sell LCD covers to reduce the viewing angle for those who would want to blur their screen for people not directly looking at the screen.
The picture quality of this monitor is great. It has a pixel pitch of .2x (distance between pixels). Some larger screens have wide pitches, and thus the pixels are larger or further apart, which deteriorates the quality of picture. The resolution of this screen is 1900x1200 (widescreen), so you can view large picture on the screen without scrolling.
